Casualties in the 16-24 Year Old Age Group

Killed or Seriously Injured

Despite the downward trend in overall figures within this age group, during the period 2006-2010 the numbers of 16-24 year old car drivers, car passengers and riders of powered two wheelers killed or seriously injured on our roads fluctuated year by year.

Between 2009 and 2010 numbers fell in each of these categories.

In the first 9 months of 2011, 20 young drivers have been killed or seriously injured in Somerset, four higher than the final figure for 2010.

The problem of rising numbers of young drivers and their passengers being injured in road accidents is one that is continuously being addressed by our Road Safety team. Details of presentations to support this vulnerable age group can be found here.
