Seatbelts

Seatbelts in the front seats of a car became compulsory almost 30 years ago and for back seat passengers 20 years ago. Since the introduction of these laws thousands of lives have been saved.

Despite the law hundreds of people are still killed each year who are not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. At just 30mph an unbelted rear seat passenger thrown forwards in the event of a crash will have the force of 30-60 times their body weight. Each year a number of drivers and front seat passengers are killed by unbelted rear seat passengers.

If you’re driving just take a few seconds to ensure that all of your passengers are wearing their seatbelts before you move off.
